1. 近(ちか)い near; 近(ちか)く nearby (place)
   私の家は学校(がっこう)に近(ちか)いです。
   My house is near the school.
   この近(ちか)くに公園(こうえん)があります。
   There is a park nearby.
2. 近所(きんじょ) neighborhood; 最近(さいきん) recently

1. 明(あか)るい bright; 明日(あした) tomorrow [Also pronounced as あす or みょうにち.]
   明日(あした)は雨(あめ)でしょう。
   It will probably rain tomorrow.
   この部屋(へや)は明(あか)るいですね。
   This room is bright.
2. 説明(せつめい) explanation
   コピーの仕(し)方(かた)を説明(せつめい)します。
   I will explain how to make a copy.

1. 起(お)きる to wake up; to occur; 起(お)こす to wake (someone) up
   朝(あさ)、六時に起(お)きました。
   I got up at six in the morning.
   日本で大きい地(じ)震(しん)が起(お)きました。
   A large earthquake occurred in Japan.
2. 起(き)立(りつ) Stand up!
