 　Introducing Family Members ▲　

 

Let's practice introducing your family members. Make sure you use the ingroup/humble terms to refer to your own family members. Also "style shift" will likely occur during the conversation. If you are talking to an outsider, use the polite forms, but if you are talking to an ingroup member, use the plain forms.

 

Ex. A is introducing B toボブ (父).
father

A→B:
A→ボ:

これは父です。[Polite]
こちら、ジョージアテックのＢさん。[Plain]
B→ボ: はじめまして。 どうぞよろしく。
ボ→B:
 はじめまして。
むすこが いつも おせわになっています。[Polite]
B→ボ: いえいえ、こちらこそ。

 

1. A is introducing B to A's mother, かずこ.

こちら、 のＢさん。
B→か: はじめまして。どうぞよろしく。
か→B:
 はじめまして。 (my son/daughter)が いつも おせわに なっています。
B→か: いえいえ、こちらこそ。
2. A is introducing B (a friend from GT) to A's older brother, とおる.

こちら、 のＢさん。

B→と: はじめまして。どうぞよろしく。
と→B:
 はじめまして。 (my younger brother or sister)が いつも 。
B→と: 。
3. A is introducing B (a colleague from work) to A's older sister,　けいこ.

 はじめまして。 (my younger brother or sister)が 。

4. A is introducing her son to B.

5. A is introducing his daughter to B.

6. You (A or B) are introducing your family members to C.

C→B: はじめまして。どうぞよろしく。
B→C: はじめまして。 (my husband)が いつも おせわに なっています。
C→B: いえいえ、こちらこそ。かわいい ですね。 おいくつですか。
B→C: です。
